Dream cars take many forms for many different people, but the latest burner from the Coustic custom installation team will make you wake up in a cold sweat. It's a 225 HP red flag for local authorities with enough juice in the trunk to make your heart palpitate.Noise Killer Extreme sound damping mat was used on the doors inside and out. Streetwires 12 gauge blue and silver twisted pair speaker cable was used throughout the installation along with Streetwires ZN6 series RCA cables and Streetwires power and ground cables.
Five SVR 33 batteries were used, three under the hood with custom brass buss bars, and two in the spare tire well.
Two Streetwires 20-volt stiffing capacitors built into the bridge hanging over the subwoofers.
All power distribution was courtesy of Streetwires. It includes two CBR44A combo blocks in the spare tire well and 1- 0 gauge fuse holder under the hood and one in the spare tire well.
The center channel, an MTX T6.5 coaxial speaker, is mounted in the front of the center console firing up and back towards the center of the listening area. To achieve this, the team chose to create a custom console using the factory console as a starting point. They began by removing the plastic in the front of the console (where the factory cup holders were). An MDF ring was made and mounted to the console to hold the speaker. They then moved to the rear of the console and cut off the factory armrest and change holder. An MDF ring was made to house a rear-facing monitor and mounted to the console. The entire console was wrapped in fleece and covered in resin and allowed to dry. It was then reinforced with fiberglass matte, sanded, spray filled and painted black. The center console also holds the system control switches, which include audio system, PS2, exterior neon, interior neon, and NOS arming switch.
The team dropped three Coustic CF124 12" subwoofers in each of two 3 cubic foot MDF and fiberglass enclosures. The factory left and right rear panels were removed exposing the car's inner metal. This was taped off so that the team could lay fiberglass mat to get the shape of the car for the rear of the enclosure. Once it was dry, a ¾" top and bottom was cut to shape and attached with fiberglass to the back. MDF mounting rings were cut for the drivers and mounted to the enclosure and fleece was stretched over the front. It was then resined and allowed to dry. Once dry the enclosure was reinforced with fiberglass mat and our house "oatmeal" recipe to ensure a good seal. It was then sanded, spray filled and painted black. Two subs were fired into the cabin, two across the cabin and two towards the rear of the cabin. All of this works together to deliver tight bass in the cabin, even with all of the doors open.
Six Coustic 401DB amplifiers run the subs while the front, center, and rears are run by four Coustic 161SE amplifiers (one for center, two for the front doors, one for the rear doors). The amp racks for the 161SEs are made of fiberglass and MDF and mounted to the top of the sub enclosures to give the illusion of one large tub on the left and right of the hatch area. The amps on the left run the front door speakers and the amps on the right run the center channel and the rear doors. There is a "bridge" that spans between the two amp racks that holds two Streetwires Digital top 20-volt capacitors. The amp rack for the 401DBs sits on the floor between the two sub enclosures. It is also made of MDF and fiberglass and is finished and painted to match the sub enclosures. The amps are mounted back to back on three Plexiglas "fins" that were hollowed out and lit up from the inside with neon. The plexi was cut in the shape of the amps to give the illusion that the amps are floating between the subs. This rack is hinged at the front to give access to the batteries, wiring, and fuses that are beneath it in the spare tire well.
Clarion VRX925VD - The factory trim was removed and de-textured then painted black to match the rest of the fiberglass work in the car. Installation of the Clarion DVD source unit with flip-out screen started with an abs plastic mounting kit, which was modified to allow the source unit to sit flush in its mounts. The ABS was treated and wrapped in grille cloth and resin was applied and allowed to dry. It was then "slicked " out with body filler, spray filled and painted silver to match the aluminum trim used throughout the car and on it accessories. The mounting kit was screwed in from under the dash. The team tucked a Sony PlayStation2 under the driver's seat and added custom plug-ins in rear seat trim panels, while under the passenger's seat is the video switching unit built into the brain box of the Clarion source unit.
Video amplifiers from Icon TV for rear monitors.1 - Clarion VMA 7191 7" in rear of center console, 2 - Icon TV 9" play out of rear windows.
